Little Lisa Marie
Lisa Marie was born in Memphis, Tennessee on February 1, 1968
at
5:01 pm in Baptist Memorial Hospital.
She was 6 pounds 15 ounces and 20 inches long.
Lisa Marie is the only child of Elvis Presley and his former wife,
actress Priscilla Beaulieu Presley.
Her parents divorced on October 11, 1973, and Priscilla received
custody of Lisa Marie. When Elvis died on August 16, 1977,
Lisa Marie was his sole heir and inherited Graceland,
his legendary estate in Memphis, Tennessee to be taken over when she turned twenty five (this was later altered to thirty).
Sometime after Elvis died she began acting out and experimenting with drugs, Priscilla sent her to a series of private schools, including a boarding school in Ojai, California.
At boarding school, Lisa Marie was "not a cheerleader, not part of the student body council. I wasn't that kid." Lisa says. The stories that she was a teenage "addict" are false, she says, though her mother did send her to Scientology camp to get herself together, and she's thankful for it.
"I was kind of a loner, a melancholy and strange child," Lisa Marie says. "I had a real self-destructive mode for a while. I never really fit into school. I didn't really have any direction."
She credits Scientology with helping her break from drugs and start building some self-esteem.
